The ozone is made on site

A generator in the launderette turns oxygen from the room air into ozone, continuously, throughout the cycle. It is the most powerful natural disinfectant there is, the same one used to make tap water drinkable.

It goes into the cold water

The ozone dissolves into the water in the drum and goes straight for the micro-organisms lodged in the fibres. It does the job heat does elsewhere, more effectively, and without cooking the fabric.

It turns back into oxygen

Within minutes the ozone breaks back down into oxygen on its own. Nothing is left on your laundry: no chemical, and no heavy perfume meant to cover a smell that is still there.

Washing cold is washing gently on the planet.

An ordinary wash spends most of its electricity taking the water to 40 or 60 °C. Take that step out and a cold wash uses roughly 60% less, while the disinfection stays that of a high-temperature cycle. An 18 kg drum here also replaces two or three loads at home: less water, less electricity, once instead of three times.

No water heated

Heating the water is where most of a wash's energy goes. No cycle here heats it: ozone disinfection does that work cold.

Oxygen, and nothing else

The ozone is made on site out of the air in the room, then recombines into oxygen once it has done its work. No chemical residue goes down the drain.

The right dose, never more

Detergent and softener are injected by the machine, to the millilitre. No capful poured by eye, so no surplus detergent in the waste water.

What is ozone washing in a self-service launderette?

Ozone (O₃) is an active form of oxygen, the most powerful natural disinfectant known, and the one used to make water drinkable. It is produced on site from the surrounding air, then injected into the cold water in the drum. It oxidises the walls of bacteria, viruses and mould and destroys them within minutes, before breaking back down into oxygen without leaving a residue. It is the process hospitals and hotels use to disinfect laundry without subjecting it to temperatures that damage it.

Why does a cold wash disinfect better here?

In an ordinary machine, temperature is what sanitises: you have to reach 60 °C to touch some of the bacteria, which fades colours, shrinks fibres and swallows most of the cycle's energy.
